12 − 22 + 32 − 42 + 52 − 62 +… 

= (1 − 2) (1 + 2) + (3 − 4) (3 + 4) +… + (15 − 16) (15 + 16) +172 

= −(1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + … + 16) + 172 = 289 − 136 = 153.
