If sin x cos y = 1/4 and 3 tan x = 4 tan y, then find the value of sin (x + y).

Correct option  (B) 7/16

3 tan x = 4 tan y ⇒ 3 sin x cos y = 4 cos x sin y

⇒ 3/4 = 4 cos x sin y ⇒ cos x sin y = 3/16

Therefore,

sin (x + y) = sin x cos y + cos x sin y = 1/4 + 3/16 = 7/16
