The rms speed of the molecules of a gas at a pressure 105 PA and temperature 0° C is 0.5 km s-1. if the pressure is kept constant but temperature is raised to 819° C the velocity will become :

Answer is (A) 1 km s-1.

C1/C2 = [T1/T2]1/2. here C1 = 0.5 kms-1., T1 = 0° C = 273 K, T2 = 819° C = 1092 K

Hence C2 = 1 kms-1
