(a) Gandhi started the Non-Cooperation Movement in 1920. It progressed powerfully from 1920 – Feb, 1922. But the attack on a local police station by angry peasants at Chauri-Chaura in Gorakhpur district of UP on Feb 5, 1922 led Gandhi to stop the movement.
