For the reaction

C12H22O11 H2O  → (H+) C6H12O6 + C6H12O6

Write :

(i) Rate of reaction expression

(ii) rate law equation

(iii) molecularity

(iv) order of reaction

(b) The following data were obtained during the first order thermal decompostiotion of SO2Cl2 at constant volume-

SO2Cl2(g) → SO2(g) + Cl2(g)

Best answer

(a)

(i) Rate equation

(ii) Rate law equation

Rate = K[C12H22O11]

(iii) Molecularity → 2

(iv) Order → first order

(b) As the reaction is of first order therefore

When

P0 = 0.65atm i.e. P0 + P = 0.65atm

P = 0.65 – P0 = 0.65 – 0.50 = 0.15atm

Therefore the pressure of SO2Cl2 at time t(PSO2Cl2

= P0 – P = (0.50 – 0.15)atm = 0.35atm

Rate at that time = K × (P ) SO2Cl2

= 2.2316 × 10–3 × 0.35

= 7.8 × 10–4atm sec–1
