MBO is based on the following assumptions :
1. Existence of mutual understanding between a superior and a subordinate.
2. Employees can perform better when they clearly know what is expected from them and how their individual efforts contribute to organisation.
3. It assumes that employees are interested to participate in formulation of plans, want to know the results of their performance and expect to be fairly rewarded for their performance.
