About Indian Antartic Program The Indian Antarctic Program is carried out under the control of the National Centre for Antarctic and Ocean Research. Indian expeditions to the Antarctic study the fauna and the molecular biodiversity of the region. Out of the total 120 new microbes discovered here as a result of international scientific research, 20 have been discovered by India. Indian research station Maitri has been conducting experiments in geology, geography and medicine. India built a freshwater lake around Maitri known as Lake Priyadarshini. Maitri accomplished the mission of geomorphologic mapping of Schirrmacher Oasis.
