Factorise: p2 + 6p - 16

First find the two numbers whose sum=6 and product= -16

Clearly, the numbers are 8 and 2

∴ we get, p2 +6p – 16 

= p+8p – 2p -16

= p (p+8) – 2(p+8)

= (p+8) (p-2)
