‘Tremulations on ether’ is meant by words, thoughts, sighs and aspirations etc., that depart when one is dead. These no longer dwell in body when it is decayed or dead. These departed feelings while staying out of the body are called ‘tremulations on ether’. ‘Novel as a tremulation’ is referred to the vibrations that quiver us.
‘शून्य में कम्पन’ से अभिप्राय उन शब्दों, विचारों, आहों और महत्वाकांक्षाओं इत्यादि से है जो व्यक्ति की मृत्यु के बाद उससे अलग हो जाते हैं। शरीर के क्षीण या मृत हो जाने पर ये उसमें रहना बन्द कर देते हैं। शरीर से अलग हुई ये भावनाएँ जब शरीर से बाहर रहती हैं तो इन्हें ‘शून्य में कम्पन’ कहा जाता है। ‘उपन्यास एक कम्पन’ का सम्बन्ध उन कम्पनों से है जो हमें विचलित कर देते हैं।
