According to D. H. Lawrence there is right and wrong, good and bad in the life. But what is right in one case is wrong in another case. One thing may be good at one time but may be bad at other time. In the novel a man may become a corpse for his so called goodness or another may go dead because of his wickedness. Right or wrong or good or bad is an instinct generating from the consciousness of man alive. We realize life when this instinct is given full play as in the novel to make it alive.
डी. एच. लारेन्स के अनुसार जीवन में अच्छा और बुरा, सही और गलत होता है। परन्तु जो कुछ एक मामले में सही हो सकता है वही दूसरे मामले में गलत हो सकता है। कोई चीज एक स्थान पर अच्छी हो सकती है वही दूसरे स्थान पर बुरी हो सकती है। उपन्यास में एक व्यक्ति अपनी तथाकथित अच्छाई के लिए शव जैसा हो जाता है वहीं दूसरा कोई व्यक्ति अपनी दुष्टता के लिए मर जाता है। सही या गलत या अच्छा या बुरां एक प्राकृतिक आवेग है जो कि एक जीवित व्यक्ति की संचेतना से उत्पन्न होता है। हम जीवन को तभी अनुभव करते हैं जब इस भावना को खेलने का पूरा मौका दिया जाता है जैसा कि उपन्यास में होता है।
