Arjuna was deeply pained to think that performance of his duty to fight would cause a great carnage. He questioned whether it was right to be concerned only with one’s own duty to promote a just cause or was it right to be indifferent to the misery and the slaughter even of one’s kin.
अर्जुन यह सोचकर अत्यधिक दुखी था कि उसके अपना कर्तव्य निभाने से महान नरसंहार होगा। उसने प्रश्न उठाया कि क्या यह सही है कि मात्र धर्म का साथ देने के अपने कर्तव्य की परवाह की जाये, या कि अपने सम्बन्धियों तक के दु:ख व वध के प्रति उदासीन होना सही है।
