Solve the following systems of simultaneous linear equations by the method of elimination by equating the coefficient 3x – 7y + 10 = 0, y – 2x = 3

The given equations are

3x – 7y + 10 = 0 …(i)

and y – 2x = 3 …(ii)

Multiplying equation (i) by 2 and (ii) by 3 and then

adding, we get

– 11y = – 11

⇒ y = 1

Putting y = 1 in (ii), we get

1 – 2x = 3 ⇒ 1 – 3 = 2x

⇒ 2x = -2

⇒ x = -1

Hence the required solution is x = – 1 and y = 1
