Bombay was divided to form Maharashtra for Marathi-speaking and Gujarat for the Gujarati-speaking. In 1966 Punjab was reorganised to create Punjab for the Punjabispeaking and Himachal Pradesh and Haryana for the Hindi-speaking. In 1972 states of Meghalaya, Manipur and Tripura were formed and after sometimes Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland and Mizoram were made states. From 2000 onwards were formed the states of Jharkhand, Uttaranchal (Uttarakhand) and Chhattisgarh.
