In the early stages of throwing competitions there was no specification for the weight of the shot, but these days the shot should be of the specific weight: 7.258 kg for men and 4 kg for women.
The techniques used in putting the shot are:
1. Orthodox Style.
2. Peri O’brien Style.
3. Disco-Put Style.
4. The shot is thrown from the circle of 2.135 mt diameter. The Angle of throwing sector should be 40°. If the shot touches the sector line it will be deemed foul.
