Stephen Spender paints the school children of the slum as being shut up in catacombs. In the elementary school of the slum their future is dark and misty because of the slum environment. They have nothing new and encouraging in their lives. They are trapped in their miseries of despair, diseases and utter poverty. In these narrow streets their fate is sealed. Their future is dark like an endless night.
