1. Adsorbent is a material on which adsorption takes place.

eg., silica gel and metals like Ni, Cu, Pt.

2. Adsorbate is a substance which is adsorbed on the adsorbent.

e.g., Gaseous molecules like He, Ne, O2, N2 and solutions of NaCI (or) KCI.
