Best answer

In Ionic compounds, ions are held tightly together by strong electrostatic forces of attraction making them quite rigid. So these ions do not conduct electricity in solid state due to the immobility of the ions. But in molten state the ions get some free space to move as the electrostatic force of attraction weakens and hence allow the conduction of electricity.
