A man had a certain number of oranges. He divides them into two lots A and B. He sells the first lot at the rate of Rs 2 for 3 oranges and the second lot at the rate Re 1 per orange and gets a total of Rs 400. If he had sold the first lot at the rate of Re 1 per orange and the second lot at the rate of Rs 4 for 5 oranges, his total collection would have been Rs 460. Find the total number of oranges he had ?

(a) 50

(b) 100

(c) 500

(d) 400

(c) 500

Let the number of oranges in the lots A and B be a and b respectively. 

According to the question,

\(\frac{2}{3}a\) + b = 400  ..........(i)

a + \(\frac{4}{5}\)b = 460  ..........(ii)

Now we can solve for a and b.
