The statement is justified during the War of 1962 between India and China. India had to approach USA and UK for military assistance while the Soviet Union remained neutral during the conflict. Jawaharlal Nehru was criticised for his handling of the Chinese invasion and lack of military preparedness and a no-confidence motion was moved against his government in the Lok Sabha. The War also led to a split within the largest opposition party, CPI.
