(1) KMnO4 in acidic medium :

(2) KMnO4 in neutral or alkaline medium in neutral or weakly alkaline medium :

(i) Iodide is oxidised to iodate ion.

(ii) Thiosulphate ion is oxidised to sulphate ion.

(iii) Manganous salt is oxidised to MnO2.
