ऑक्सीजन में ध्वनि की चाल मीटर/सेकंड है हाइड्रोजन तथा ऑक्सीजन के उस मिश्रण में ध्वनि की चाल ज्ञात कीजिएः जिसमे हाइड्रोजन तथा ऑक्सीजन का अनुपात है

माना हाइड्रोजन तथा ऑक्सीजन के घनत्व क्रमश: `d_(1)` व् `d_(2)` तथा मिश्रण इन इनके आयतन क्रमश: `V_(1)` व `V_(2)` है
अथवा `d=(d_(2)[((V_(1))/(V_(2)))((d_(1))/(d_(2)))+1])/([((V_(1))/(V_(2)))+1])=(d_(2)[(4)/(1)((1)/(16))+1])/([(4)/(1)+1])=(d_(2))/(4)`
यदि मिश्रण में ध्वनि की चाल `v_(M)` तथा ऑक्सीजन में `v_(O)` हो तो लाप्लास सूत्र से `v_(M)=sqrt((gammaP)/(d_(1)))` तथा `v_(O)=sqrt((gammaP)/(d_(2)))` (हाइड्रोजन तथा ऑक्सीजन द्विपरमाणुक है अंत: इनके मिश्रण के लिये भी `gamma` का मान व्ही है जोकि द्विपरमाणुक गैस का है)
`(v_(M))/(v_(O))=sqrt((d_(2))/(d_(1)))=sqrt4=2`
`v_(M)=2v_(O)=2xx635=1270` मीटर/सेकण्ड
