Correct Answer - C
Carbocations are formed by heterolytic bond fission.
`-overset(|) underset(|)C-Z to -overset(|) underset(|)C+Z^(-)`
In `CH_(3)^(+)`, the carbon atom is `sp^(2)`- hybridised , so the carbon atom used `sp^(2)` hybrid orbitals to form three `sigma` bonds. A empty p-orbital is symmetrically above and below the plane of three sigma bonds. This empty p-orbital makes the carbon atom electron-defincient (eelectrophile). The three `sp^(2)` hybrid orbitals are directed towards the corners of a equilateral triangle. Hence, the shape of `CH_(3)^(+)` is likely to be planar.
