Endurance: It is a very important component of physical fitness. It is defined as "tendency of the body to work for a longer time without getting fatigued.'' It is the ability of the muscle to sustain localized muscle group activity for extended period of time. For example. long distance running.

Fartlek Training Method: It is method of endurance development. Fartlek is a Swedish word which means 'speed play'.

This method is developed by Gosta Holmer, in the year 1937 .It is a variation of variable pace method. In Fartlek, change of pace or speed is not pre-planned. The sportsman changes the speed on his own according to his feelings, surroundings and terrain, therefore, this method requires more self-discipline in order to be effective. Duration is upto one hour. Depending upon the dynamics of speed. this method can be used to improve both aerobic and anaerobic capacity. Fartlek training method is a pre-competitive method and is helpful in developing physical factors like strength, endurance and speed. It is a type of cross country run usually conducted over a hilly region. Along with running, some exercises are also performed in this type of training. Time factor is very important as programme of training is chalked out by setting a time period for completion of training.
