Durlabhvardhan

  •  Durlabhavardhana founded the Karkota Empire, Kashmir (c. 625 - 885 CE) during the lifetime of Harshavardhan.
  • Karkota was a major power in the Indian subcontinent during the 7th and 8th century.
  • His kingdom was located in the present-day Indian state of Kashmir.
  • The dynasty marked the rise of Kashmir as a power in Northern India. 

Chandrapida

  • Chandrapida is also known as Vajraditya I, was the 3rd king of the Karkota dynasty, Kashmir.
  • He was the eldest son of king Durlabhaka (son of Durlabhvardhan) and succeeded him onto the throne. 
  • He was a famous king known for his wise, just, courageous nature, with a simple disposition.
  • According to Kalhana's Rajatarangini, Chandrapida ruled from c. 684 CE-643 CE.
  •  His reign was peaceful, as he was a just and benevolent king, who cared for his subjects.

Lalitaditya

  • Lalitaditya Muktapida became the fifth ruler of the Karkota dynasty from c. 724 CE–760 CE.
  • He was a younger brother of Chandrapida.
  • Lalitaditya not only stopped the Arabs from entering India but also conquered parts of Iran and extended his Kingdom up to Tibet and China.
  • His successful efforts to protect Kashmir and India is something that the Indian nation can and should never forget. 

Avantivarman

  • The accession of Avantivarman (855-83 A.D.) on the throne of Kashmir ushered in a period of peace and prosperity.
  • His was an  Age of Consolidation and Enlightenment
  • He did not have the ambition of going on expeditions and conquering many lands.
  • Thus, there was peace and Kashmir reached the apex in philosophy and literature.
