Narasimha III was a Hoysala Empire, whose reign lasted from 1263–1292 AD. Under his reign the construction of the Chennakesava Temple began.

  • Narasimha III faced rebellion from his brother, Ramanatha and invasion by the Yadavas of Seuna. But he defeated both.
  • He worshiped Parshvanatha, the 23rd Jain tirthankara, and his spiritual adviser was Maghanandi Siddhanta.
  • Narsimha III was succeeded by Veera Ballala III.
  • The Chennakesava Temple's foundation stone was laid by  Somanatha Dandanayaka, a general of the Hoysala King Narasimha III in 1258 AD.
  • The construction was completed in 1268 AD.
  • It is located in Somanathapura town, Karnataka.
  • The temple contains inscriptions of Ramayana, Mahabharat and Bhagvata Purana.
