Work Break Down structure (WBS) is increment or sequential decomposition of project to different phases & work packages. It is a tree like structure which shows the description of activities.

It is formed by considering the end objectives and breaking it into no of small manageable units depending upon the size, time and effort involved for its completion.

Importance of WBS:

 1. We can create measureable and independent task and can establish co-ordination between them.

2. We can distribute the project budget into defined packages linked to the tasks and check to make sure that the task costs in total don't exceed the total project cost.

3. We can check for percentage of completion because each task is measurable.

4. We can assigns responsibility for each of the tasks.

5. It helps for organizing the roles and responsibilities for each task of project staff.

6. We can predict accurately what kind of resources are required for completion of each task.
