Correct Answer - Option 4 : Current in the filament

Concept:

  • The electromagnetic wave of very high energy and very short wavelength which has capacity to penetrate the opaque material is called as X-rays.
  • When electrons having very high energy strikes the metal surface then X-rays produces.

Explanation:

  • When we increase the potential difference between anode and cathode then the energy of the striking electrons increases.
  • Due to this high energy electrons falling on the metal surface, the X-rays produced gets more energy.
  • The penetrating power of X-rays increases when we increase the energy of X-rays.
  • Thus by increasing the potential difference between the cathode and anode, the penetrating power of X-rays increases.
  • It does not depends on current in the filament.
  • With increase in wavelength, penetrating power of any wave will decrease.
