  • The maximum number of members in Lok Sabha or House of the People allotted by the Constitution of India is 552. Initially, it was 500 in 1950.

  • From 1950 to 2020 there were 2 seats reserved for the Anglo-Indian community which was nominated by the President.
  • But this was abolished in January 2020 through the 104th Constitutional Amendment Act 2019.
  • During the creation of the Indian Constitution, Article 334 made the law of reservation of seats for the Anglo-Indian community but it also said that this law would exist for 10 years after the commencement of the Constitution.
  • Through the 8th amendment, this reservation was extended to 1970.
  • Then it was extended till 1980 using the 23rd amendment, using the 45th amendment extended to 1990, 62nd amendment to 2006, 79th amendment till 2010, and 95th amendment till 2020.
  • Finally, in January 2020 this reservation was abolished.
  • The reason for its abolition as given by then union law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad was that the population of Anglo-Indians in the country is just 296 according to the 2011 Census of India

  • Article 221 of the Indian Constitution makes laws for the salaries to be provided to the judges of each High court
  • Article 121 of the Constitution states that parliament cannot take up any discussions in reference to the behavior of any judge of the high court or Supreme Court unless a motion is presented to address the president asking for the removal of a judge.
  • Article 139 increases the powers of parliament that it can make law increasing the power of the Supreme Court to issue orders or directions for the fulfillment of fundamental rights.
