A truck of mass M is moved under a force F. If the truck is then loaded with an object equal to the mass of the truck and the driving force is halved, then how does the acceleration change?
1. reduces to 2/4th of the original
2. reduces to 1/3th of the original

Correct Answer - Option 4 : reduces to 1/4th of the original

The correct answer is- reduces to 1/4th of the original.

  • A force is a push or pulls upon an object resulting from the object's interaction with another object. Whenever there is an interaction between two objects, there is a force upon each of the objects.
    • Its formula is given by Force = mass × acceleration
    • Its SI unit is Newton.
  • Acceleration is the rate of change of the velocity of an object with respect to time.

Calculation:

⇒ F = ma

⇒ a = f/m

When the mass is doubled force is halved m becomes 2m and f becomes f/2

⇒ a1 = f / 4m

⇒ Change in acceleration = a1 / a  = (f/m) / (f/4m) = 1/4

So, the acceleration reduces to 1/4th of the original
