  • According to the 2013 ISFR report, the state with largest forest cover is Madhya Pradesh with 77,522 sq. km. of the area under forest. 

 

  • According to the 2019 ISFR report, the total forest cover of the country is 21.67 percent of the total geographical area of the country which is slightly up from 21.54 percent in 2017.
    • The top three states with an increase in forest cover are Karnataka (1,025 sq. km), Andhra Pradesh (990 sq km), and Kerala (823 sq km).
    • The Total Forest cover of India is 7,12,249 sq km which is 21.67% of the geographical area of the country.
    • Area-wise Madhya Pradesh has the largest forest cover in the country followed by Arunachal Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, and Maharashtra.
      • Madhya Pradesh has a forest cover of about 77,482.49 square km.​
