Correct Answer - Option 1 : It is stimulus oriented

Classical conditioning:-

  • It is a type of learning that happens unconsciously.
  • It was discovered by Pavlov, a Russian physiologist.
  • In simple terms, two stimuli are linked together to form a new learned response in a person or animal.
  • An automatic conditioned response is paired with a specific stimulus.

  • The term classical conditioning is defined as learning by association, whereby a neutral stimulus, by virtue of its occurrence in close time and space with a natural stimulus that gives rise to a natural response, becomes capable of eliciting that natural response, even in absence of the natural stimulus.
  • Classical conditioning is applicable only for reflexive and spontaneous responses, and not for voluntary responses.
  • It is stimulus oriented.
  • Example- For the last few years, you receive your paycheck every Friday. Even though you have a new job where you receive your paycheck on different days, you still feel good on Fridays. You’ve been conditioned to associate it with the positivity of receiving that paycheck.

Thus, it can be concluded that one of the characteristics of classical conditioning is - it is stimulus oriented as without stimulus-response cannot be created.
