Correct Answer - Option 3 : 31

Given:

Total exams are 6 and his average score is 40

If two exams were not considered,

His average score is increased by 4.5

Formula Used:

Average = Sum of all observations/Total number of observations

Calculation:

Average in 6 exams is 40

⇒ Sum of marks scored in all exams = 40 × 6

⇒ Sum of marks scored in all exams = 240

Now according to the question,

Average increased by 4.5

⇒ 40 + 4.5

⇒ 44.5

Marks he scored in 4 exams = 44.5 × 4

⇒ Marks he scored in 4 exams = 178

Marks scored by him 2 exams,

⇒ 240 – 178

⇒ 62

Average of his best score and worst score,

⇒ 62/2

⇒ 31

∴ In his best and worst performance his average is 31.
