  • The Quit India Resolution was passed on 8 August 1942 at Gowalia Tank Ground, Bombay, while launching this mass movement, Gandhiji said, “We shall do or die.

  • Quit India Movement:
    • In August 1942, Gandhiji started the Quit India Movement and decided to launch a mass civil disobedience movement 'Do or Die' call to force the British to leave India.
    • The movement was followed, nonetheless, by large-scale violence directed at railway stations, telegraph offices, government buildings, and other emblems and institutions of colonial rule. 
    • In this movement, all the prominent leaders like Nehru, Patel, etc. were arrested but other leaders like Ram Manohar Lohia, Usha Mehta, etc. continued the revolutionary struggle.
    • In the Quit India Movement, the general public gave unprecedented support to the agitators. No section of society backs away from giving help and support.
    • The Quit India movement, more than anything, united the Indian people against British rule.

  • Non-cooperation Movement:
    • Non-cooperation Movement resolution was passed on Congress annual session in December 1920 at Nagpur
    • The main emphasis of the movement was on a boycott of schools, colleges, law courts, elections to Provincial and Central Assembly.
    • Non-cooperation Movement progressed powerfully from January 1920 to early February 1922 and it was the first well-organized Indian movement.
    • On the failure of this movement, Subhash Chandra Bose said it as a "National Calamity".
  • Civil Disobedience Movement:
    • To achieve the goal of complete Independence, Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM) was started by Gandhiji with the Dandi March on March 12, 1930.
    • Gandhiji started his march along with 78 followers from Sabarmati Ashram to the small village Dandi (Navsari District) to break the Salt Law.
    • The Civil Disobedience Movement aimed at paralyzing the administration by a performance of specific illegal acts.
