Out of a group of 50 persons, 18 go to work by train and 26 go to work by bus. Eight people go neither by train nor by bus.

How many people use both train and bus to go to work?

Given:

 

Total number of persons = 50

Number of persons who go to work by train = 18

Number of persons who go to work by train = 26

The number of persons who go neither by train nor by bus = 8

Calculation:

Number of people who use both train and bus to go to work = (Number of persons who go to work by train) + (Number of persons who go to work by train) - (Number of people who use either train or bus to go to work)

⇒ Number of people who use either train or bus to go to work = (total person) - (The number of persons who go neither by train nor by bus)

⇒ Number of people who use either train or bus to go to work = 50 - 8 = 42

⇒ Number of people who use both train and bus to go to work = 26 + 18 - 42 = 2

∴ The number of people who use both train and bus to go to work is 2.
