Correct Answer - Option 1 : 10 kg

Given:

Weight of vessel and water when the vessel is full is 40kg.

Weight of vessel and water when the vessel is one-third filled is 20kg.

Calculation:

Let the weight of the vessel be x kg.

And the weight of the water is y kg.

According to question

⇒ x + y = 40kg      ----(1)

⇒ x + (y/3) = 20 kg      ----(2)

Now, Subtract (2) form (1)

⇒ x + y - x - (y/3) = 40 - 20

⇒ y - (y/3) = 20

⇒ (2y/3) = 20

⇒  y = 30 kg

Put value of y in (1)

⇒ x + 30 = 40

⇒ x = 10 kg

∴ The weight of the vessel is 10 kg.
