The products A and B obtained in the following reactions, respectively, are

\(3ROH + PCl_3 \rightarrow 3RCl + A \)

\(ROH + PCl_5 \rightarrow RCl + HCl + B \)

(1) \(POCl_3\) and \(H_3PO_3 \)

(2) \(POCl_3\) and \(H_3PO_4 \)

(3) \(H_3PO_4\) and \(POCl_3 \)

Best answer

Correct option is (4) \(H_3PO_3\) and \(POCl_3\)

These reactions are preparation of haloalkanes from alcohols.

\(3ROH + PCl _3 \rightarrow 3RCl + \underset {(A)}{H_3PO_3}\)

\(ROH + PCl _5 \rightarrow RCl + HCl + \underset {(B)}{POCl_3}\)

A and B are \(H_3PO_3\) and \(POCl_3\) respectively.
