Correct option: (2)

Explanation: 

This is so because α is the current gain in the common base configuration. It equals ΔIc/ΔIE and is always less than unity.

'β', on the other hand, is the current gain in the common–emitter configuration. It equals ΔIc/ΔIB. Remembering that ΔI= (ΔIc + ΔIB),  we get the given relation between α and β.
