The world today is facing the danger of global warming. Glaciers are melting and ice-caps are falling. These are indications of a much warmer world as existed in the remote past. If that happens, mankind will be wiped out from the global scenario. We shall go the way the dinosaurs, mammoths and woolly rhinos went in the past. The West Antarctic ice sheet will melt entirely. The Gulf Stream ocean current will be disrupted. It seems that climate change will cause the end of the world. Scientists are warning that further damage in the ozone layer will affect the activities of phytoplankton. This will affect the lives of all the marine animals and birds of the Southern Ocean, and the global carbon cycle. Thus, the indications for the future of mankind are really fatal.
आज विश्व के सामने वैश्विक तापन का खतरा है। ग्लेशियर पिघल रहे हैं और बर्फ की चोटियाँ गिर रही हैं। ये कहीं अधिक गर्म विश्व का संकेत दे रहे हैं जैसा कि सुदूर अतीत में था। यदि ऐसा होगा तो वैश्विक परिदृश्य से मानवता का नामोनिशान मिट जायेगा। हमारा वही हश्र होगा जो अतीत में डायनोसोर्ज, दैत्याकार जीवों और ऊन वाले गेण्डों का हुआ। पश्चिमी अंटार्कटिका की बर्फ की चादर पूरी तरह पिघल जायेगी। गल्फ स्ट्रीम समुद्री धारा बाधित हो जायेगी। ऐसा लगता है कि जलवायु परिवर्तन के कारण विश्व का अन्त हो जायेगा। वैज्ञानिक चेतावनी दे रहे हैं कि ओजोन परत की और अधिक क्षति से फाइटोप्लैंक्टन की गतिविधियों पर बुरा असर पड़ेगा। यह दक्षिण महासागर के सभी पशु-पक्षियों के जीवन, और विश्व के कार्बन चक्र को प्रभावित करेगी। इस प्रकार, मानवता के भविष्य के संकेत वास्तव में घातक हैं।
