Geoff Green’s Students on Ice’expedition aimed at studying Antarctica from a geological point of view. It also aimed at developing a new understanding and respect for the earth. Achieving these aims would be of use only if we put them to practice. So Geoff Green included high school students in his expedition. He provided them with inspiring educational opportunities. At this age, the students are ready to absorb, learn and act. The knowledge of the geological history of the earth can give them deep insight. Based on that insight, they can find ways to save the earth from the threat of ruining its ecology. In future, they can make policies based on their knowledge. Today’s children are the shapers of the future. Hence they need to understand the earth’s present, past, and future.
जियोफ ग्रीन के Students on Ice खोज अभियान का उद्देश्य भूगर्भीय दृष्टिकोण से अंटार्कटिका का अध्ययन करना था। पृथ्वी के लिए एक नयी समझ और सम्मान विकसित करना भी इसका उद्देश्य था। इन उद्देश्यों को प्राप्त करने का लाभ तभी था जबकि इन्हें व्यवहार में लाया जाये। इसलिए जियोफ ग्रीन ने अपने खोज अभियान में हाईस्कूल के विद्यार्थियों को सम्मिलित किया। उसने उन्हें प्रेरणादायक शैक्षणिक अवसर उपलब्ध कराये। उस आयु में विद्यार्थी आत्मसात् करने, सीखने और कार्य करने के लिए तत्पर रहते हैं। पृथ्वी का भूवैज्ञानिक ज्ञान उन्हें गहन अन्तर्दृष्टि प्रदान कर सकता है। उस अन्तर्दृष्टि के आधार पर वे पृथ्वी को उसकी पारिस्थितिकी के लिए उपस्थित खतरे से बचाने के तरीके ढूँढ सकते हैं। अपने इस ज्ञान के आधार पर वे भविष्य में नीतियाँ बना सकते। हैं। आज के बच्चे भविष्य निर्माता हैं। अतः उन्हें धरती के वर्तमान, भूत, व भविष्य को समझने की आवश्यकता है।
