The instructor of the author helped him to be a perfect swimmer. He had to put in extra effort for the purpose. The instructor used a rope and pulley to train the author. He held on to the end of the rope and made him go back and forth across the pool over and over again. Whenever the instructor relaxed his hold on the rope, the author would get extremely frightened. The instructor created confidence in Douglas. Then he taught him to put his face under water and exhale and to raise his nose and inhale. He made the author kick the water with his legs. He made him perfect on each step of swimming piece by piece and when he had perfected each piece, he put them together into an integrated whole. Thus the instructor made the author a perfect swimmer.
लेखक के प्रशिक्षक ने उसे एक कुशल तैराक बनने में सहायता की। इस उद्देश्य के लिए उसे अतिरिक्त मेहनत करनी पड़ी। प्रशिक्षक ने लेखक को प्रशिक्षण देने के लिए घिरनी और रस्सी का प्रयोग किया। वह रस्सी को छोर पकड़ लेता था और उससे बार-बार ताल को पार करवाता था। जब कभी प्रशिक्षक रस्सी ढीली छोड़ता तो लेखक बुरी तरह डर जाता था। तीन महीने के अन्दर उसको पानी का डर कम होने लगा। प्रशिक्षक ने लेखक के मन में भरोसा जगाया। फिर उसने लेखक को पानी के अन्दर डुबकी लगाना और साँस छोड़ना सिखाया और नाक ऊपर उठाना और साँस लेना सिखाया। उसने लेखक से पानी में पैर चलवाये। उसने तैरने के हेर चरण को अलग-अलग अभ्यास कराया और जब उसने हरे भाग पर कुशलता हासिल कर ली तो फिरे उन सबको मिला दिया। इस प्रकार प्रशिक्षक ने लेखक को एक कुशल तैराक बना दिया।
