The barber, a local wit in the story “Tomorrow” is very instrumental in the development of the plot and the discovery about the cynical attitude of Captain Hagberd. He ridicules the Captain in the tap-room of New Inn to amuse people there and makes a fun of his clothes and appearnace. He tells the audience how his son left his home, how his wife died and how he came to Colebrook searching for his son, how he settled there and how he expected that his son would return to him the “next month” which later changed into “To-morrow”.
