In ∆ABC, AB = 5 cm, BC = 8 cm and CA = 7 cm. If D and E are the mid-points of sides AB and BC respectively, then find the length of side DE.

In ∆ABC, D and E are mid-points of sides AB and BC respectively.

∴ Using mid-point theorem,

DE = \(\frac { 1 }{ 2 }AC\) = 1/2 x 7cm = 3.5 cm
