Taxi changes in a city consist of fixed charges and the remaining depending upon the distance travelled in kilometres. If a person travels 60 km, he pays Rs.960 and for travelling 80 km, he pays Rs.1260. Form linear equations to represent this situation.

Let the fixed charge of taxi be Rs x and rate per km be Rs y, 

So,

According to the first condition,

x + 60y = 960. 

And 

According to the second condition, 

x + 80y = 1260. 

Hence,

The situation is represented by following linear equation : 

x + 60y = 960 

And,

x + 80y = 1260.
