Correct Answer - Option 1 : Exchange the electric charge

Concept:

  • Lightning is a huge static electric spark that jumps from cloud to cloud or from a cloud to some object on the earth.
  • This usually happens during a heavy rainstorm or thunderstorm.

Explanation:

Causes of lightning in the sky:

  • Lightning is a flash of light created by an electric discharge between clouds or between clouds and the ground or any object on the ground.
  • Most of the lighting is because of negatively charged clouds.
  • The precipitation process within a cloud is a reason lightning occurs.
  • The filaments of lightning flames are having a very high temperature even more than the sun surface.
  • Suddenly high temperature and then again low temperature caused by lightning causes thunder in the sky.

Thus, lightning occurs in the sky when two clouds exchange the electric charge.
