Best answer
Correct Answer - Option 4 : 5√3

Given:

a2 + ab = 21

ab + b2 = -9

Formula used:

(a + b)2 = a2 + 2ab + b

a2 - b2 = (a - b)(a + b)

Calculation:

a2 + ab = 21      ----(1)

ab + b2 = -9      ----(2)

Adding eq (1) and eq (2)

⇒ a2 + 2ab + b= 12

⇒ a + b = 2√3

Subtracting eq (1) and eq (2)

⇒ a2 - b2 = 30

⇒ (a - b)(a + b) = 30

⇒ a - b = 30/2√3

⇒ a - b = 15/√3

⇒ a - b = 5√3

∴ The value of (a - b) is 5√3.
