Given:

Mixture of wine and water = 80 liters

Initial winer concentration = 60%

Calculations:

Amount of wine in 80 litre of mixture = 60% of 80 = 48 litres

Amount of water in 80 litre of mixture =80 - 48 = 32  litres

Also, 50 percent wine in the new mixture means 50 percent water in the new mixture

Let x litres of water is added to the mixture

According to question,

⇒ 32 + x = 50/100 × (80 + x)

⇒ 2(32 + x) = (80 + x)

⇒ 64 + 2x = 80 + x

⇒ x = 16

∴ x = 16 litres

∴ 16 litres water must be added to make it 50 percent wine in the new mixture.
