Correct Answer - Option 1 : 10000

Given:

Percentage of salary spend on traveling = 10%

Percentage of remaining salary spend on food = 15%

Percentage of remaining salary spend on books = 10%

Percentage of remaining salary spend on rent = 20%

Total savings = 4950

Concept used:

Saving = Income - Expenditure

Calculation:

Let the monthly salary of Sanjay be Rs. x.

Salary spend on travelling = x × (10/100)

⇒ 0.1x

Remaining salary = x – 0.1x = 0.9x

Expenditure on fooding = 0.9x × (15/100)

⇒ 0.135x

Expenditure on books = 0.9x × (10/100)

⇒ 0.09x

Expenditure on rent = 0.9x × (20/100)

⇒ 0.18x

Then, Savings = x – (0.1x + 0.135x + 0.09x + 0.18x) = 4950

⇒ x – 0.505x = 4950

⇒ 0.495x = 4950

⇒ x = 10000

∴ The salary of Sanjay is Rs. 10000.
