Correct Answer - Option 1 : Effacement

Concept:-

  • Progressive thinning and shortening of the cervix is defined as Effacement
  • It is defined as the thinning of the cervix and shortening of the cervical canal from its length of 2-3cm to 1cm.

  • Contraction- Throughout pregnancy, there are irregular involuntary spasmodic uterine contractions that are painless(Braxton hicks contraction) these contractions don't have any effect on cervical dilation but characteristics of their contraction change with the onset of labour.
  • Expulsion- It starts with maternal bearing down efforts and ends with the delivery of the baby.
  • Dilation- It is the enlargement of the external cervical os of a few mm to an opening or orifice which is large enough to deliver a baby
