Correct Answer - Option 2 : Number of past pregnancies gone beyond period of viability

Explanation:

  • Para or Parity is referred to the number of times a woman has given birth to a fetus beyond the period of viability i.e. fetus with a gestational age of 24 weeks or more, regardless of whether the child born was alive or stillborn.
  • For instance, a woman is described as 'gravida 3, para 3/ G3P3' indicates that women had three pregnancies and three deliveries after 24 weeks of gestation. However, if a woman described as 'G2P0' indicates that women have had two pregnancies, but none has continued beyond 24 weeks of gestation or period of viability.
  • Gravida is referred to the number of times a woman has been pregnant.

Other terms associated with Parity:

  • Nulliparous is one with no previous pregnancy.
  • Primigravida is one with first pregnancy
  • The primiparous woman is who has given birth once.
  • Multigravida is one who has been pregnant more than once, while Multiparous is one who has given birth more than once.
