I. x² + 31x + 240 = 0

⇒ x² + 15x + 16x + 240 = 0

⇒ x (x + 15) + 16(x + 15) = 0

⇒ (x + 15) (x + 16) = 0

⇒ x = -15, -16

II. 5y² + 60y + 135 = 0

⇒ 5y² + 45y + 15y + 135 = 0

⇒ 5y (y + 9) + 15 (y + 9) = 0

⇒ (y + 9) (5y + 15) = 0

⇒ y = -9, -3
